Organization methods and systems for your home

The organization of the house is based on two principles which are:
1. There is a place for everything.
2. Everything must be in its place.
In addition, the whole family must be involved, since maintaining organization at home should be everyone's task, even the little ones.
Ideally, you should apply an organization system that works for your family, because there are many valid methods. Here are some methods on how to organize a home to preserve emotional well-being:
  • Pomodoro Organization Method

If you want to be more productive, but big tasks overwhelm you, the ideal is to set small goals to accomplish. The Pomodoro technique invites you to work in periods of 25 minutes, after which you have to take 5-minute breaks to rest.
  • Dan-Sha-Ri Method

This organization system, devised by Hideko Yamashita in the book Dan-Sha-Ri, teaches us that until we get rid of what is no longer useful to us we will not be happy. This method could be defined as “the art of throwing away” and is based on the Dan (blocking the way from unnecessary things in our lives), the Sha (throwing away everything that is useless) and the Ri (the self that needs to change the attachment to things for a feeling of order and relaxation). The objective is to eliminate the feelings of guilt caused by throwing an object.
  • KonMari Method

Created by the Japanese Marie Kondo, it teaches us to get rid of what doesn't make us happy. It is a way to clean up material things and then lead an orderly life. The important thing about this method is that each person can find a suitable place for each object they have in their home.
  • Streamline Organization System

The creator of this organization system is Francine Jay, also known as Miss Minimalist and author of the book “Less is More.” The method defines minimalism as a formula for life and invites us not to accumulate objects on surfaces. Furthermore, try to promote the technique of exchange: nothing enters the house without something else leaving in its place.
  • 21 days of organization

This system by Alicia Iglesias, author of the blog “Order and Cleanliness at Home,” is based on the idea promulgated by Charles Duhigg, who pointed out that it takes 21 days to create a routine. According to the theory of this method, if you manage to keep your house tidy for 21 days, you will have created an automatic pattern that will become a habit.
  • Kanban Method

The Kanban method will help save time. It consists of dividing tasks into boxes of different colors depending on whether they are to be done, are in progress or finished. This method is perfect for people who never finish finishing an action.
  • GTD system

This organization system, which takes its acronym from the English expression “Getting Things Done”, which means “solving things”, is the maximum expression of the saying “don't leave for tomorrow what you can do today”. Or what is the same: if you can do it at that moment, do it before you get too lazy.
To do this, he proposes making a list of tasks and starting by doing those that take the least time to complete.
  • 5S method

This Japanese technique, explained by María Gallay in her book “The power of order: a therapy against chaos”. The technique proposes organizing following five steps: classify, order, clean, standardize and maintain discipline . The steps can be used for any type of activity related to organization, from organizing a closet to organizing every corner of the house.
  • weekly planner

The professional organizer Adelaida Gómez proposes planning each objective by making a list of pending tasks, which will be accompanied by a calculation of how much time each one will take . In addition, it is important to designate a specific day and time to carry out our objectives.
  • Declutter to order

This technique is based on the fact that, if you first disorder what you want to order, then there will be no choice but to organize the chaos . If we notice that we develop a lot of attachment to the objects we have at home, we should start with those with which we have the least emotional bond .
As you can identify, there are a large number of methods that can be used and adapted according to our needs to achieve a more organized home.
Don't let time pass by, choose your best option and put it into practice!
