How should I use my incense?

Smudging is a spiritual and mental process in which having a clear intention is just as important as the presence of your elements. Having a clear intention will make it much easier to decide which smudge is ideal for the occasion. Once you're clear, open your doors and windows; this will allow all negative energy to leave and positive energy to enter in its place.

Now you're ready.

Light your incense with a candle, a match, or a lighter, always using a circular, clockwise motion. Guide the smoke toward what you wish to purify. You can use a feather or a fan.

Begin the purification or cleansing with yourself, moving the smoke from your incense from your feet to your head, and then back to your heart. Remember to always use gentle, circular movements.

It's your turn to explore your space: start at the front door and work your way clockwise, passing every corner, window, and nook.

You decide when your ritual ends. You'll know when you're ready. Then, breathe deeply and take a few minutes to ground your thoughts. You can close by repeating your favorite mantra with the help of your Japa Mala, or simply thanking the universe for all the blessings that have come and those yet to come.

Remember that your intentions are the foundation of any smudging. If your heart is pure and your desire is noble, you will enhance its effects.
